Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced a major change in the way the company handles users' privacy. Over the next few weeks, the company will make it easier for users to find their privacy settings and edit them. It will also be easier for them to opt out of third party apps they've either signed up or been signed up to. It has been revealed that these 3rd party apps keep collecting user data, even years after the user has stopped using or forgotten about them. The company is also imposing restrictions on how much data such apps can collect from users.
This change is in response to the backlash the social media giant received after it was revealed that a British company, known as Cambridge Analytica, had collected data from as many as 50 million people under the guise of doing research. This data was ultimately used to sway voters during the US presidential election campaigns.
The new facebook privacy settings guide will be easier find. Before, facebook settings had hidden the privacy settings in places where the average user would have a very hard time finding.
